The National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia unveiled the 'Temple of Boom', a colorful and exuberant replica of The Parthenon. The large-scale art installation, designed by Melbourne-based architects Adam Newman and Kelvin Tsang, celebrates the iconic global architectural structure located on the Acropolis in Athens.
This smaller version of the original structure, built to a third of its size, was created to invite audiences to reflect on the impact of time on all architecture. The 'miniature' Temple of Boom will gradually transform with the addition of artworks and murals painted by local artists.
The first phase of artworks for the Temple of Boom will be curated by Toby Benador from Just Another Agency and feature creations by artists Drez, Manda Lane, and David Lee Pereira. To celebrate the opening, the National Gallery of Victoria will host a program with the architects and contemporary artists involved on December 4, including talks and a DJ set by Greek architect and DJ John Tanner. There will also be a virtual reality experience that allows visitors to virtually walk around The Parthenon and the Acropolis in Greece.
