Artist Gil Bruvel creates sculptures from elongated burned wood sticks. Different shape and size sticks are burned, painted with subtle gradients, and then held in place with wood glue. Figures appear pixelated, but from a distance the fragmentation reveals a coherent whole: a face arises from apparent chaos. Through their combined forms, the cluster sculpture offers a visual metaphor for the complexity and contradiction that’s inherent to human beings.
